Report from a meeting in Brisbane at Queensland Chamber of Showground Societies

This is a report from a meeting between Motouring Australia and the Queensland Chamber of Showground Societies on 5 June 2009

Motouring Australia were very pleased with how the meeting went. They felt that they made the correct choice in electing just one spokesman to speak from their group to put their basic points across.  At the windup of the meeting, all that were in attendance had the chance to put their thoughts on the table as well. All the members in the group did so.

Motouring Australia believes that the Queensland Chamber of Showground Societies(QCAS) are very much in their camp after saying initially that they had no wish to upset the Caravan Park Industry. The Motouring Australia spokesman put points across very well and asked the question as to what were the QCAS's basic aims.  The answer was that they wanted to better utilize their assits (ie. Showgrounds) and they see the RV travelers as a target market and also a base for volunteer labour.

Motouring Australia's spokesman highlighted the economic benefits to the showground and local businessses and local communities.  QCAS agreed to provide Motouring Australia with a list of showgrounds willing to accept tourists and Motouring Australia as a group stated that they would publish this list in their respective newsletters.

An important step was taken in obtaining support from QCAS in having the Land Act changed to allow RV tourists to stay on Crown Land.

This meeting also gave Motouring Australia the chance to convey to Government personel in attendance the major RV issues and challenges that the state is facing and the inexpensive responses available to it.

The CEO of QCAS will take the information from this meeting to the General Meeting of Directors on 22 June 2009 to discuss options available and how the QCAS can assist those Show Societies in Queensland, who would like to make camping available to the traveling community.
